Introduction to Hope Evangelical Free Church

Hope Evangelical Free Church is located in the Sunset District of San Francisco. We are affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America. The congregation is predominately bi-lingual (Cantonese) Chinese-American. However, all church ministries and meetings are currently conducted in English only. Currently, there are about 80 adults, 10 youth, and 30 children. The average age of the congregation is about 40.

Sunday programs for adults & youth include a prayer meeting, worship service, refreshment/fellowship time, followed by Sunday schools classes. Children’s programs include a time of worship, Sunday school classes, refreshments, and a second hour character building program. In addition, children’s choir practices are held twice a month for 3rd to 6th grade children.

On weekdays, a pre-school is operated on church premises. On Friday evenings, children and youth have fellowship meetings. The AWANA club for the 3rd to 6th graders as well as the youth fellowship for the 7th to 10th graders are held from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.

Various small groups meet on Friday evenings and Saturdays: two groups for families, one adult group, a career men’s group, and a women’s group.  

There are three ministry teams that plan and execute programs and ministries in our church - the adult ministry team, the youth ministry team, and the children’s ministry team.

The Executive Board consists of elected members that govern the overall direction of the church. However, an annual congregational meeting is held in November to elect new board members and to approve the following year’s budget.
